Sample Editor 1.0.2
-------------------
Enclosed with this note is Sample Editor 1.0.2, an update to
the previously submitted version (1.0.1).
A number of bugs have been fixed, including:
* Improved compatability with 24-bit memory mode (was originally
designed for 32-bit mode only).
* Digital delay sometimes crashed for complex delays. Now fixed.
* Playback rate dial accuracy improved.
* Status pane fixed to work after a Revert.
* Saving fixed to handle replacing already existing file.
* Problem which prevented recording on LC fixed.
Thanks to those who suggested improvements or pointed out
problems. If you've got anything to say about the Sample Editor,
whether it's good or bad, please do let me know.
Description:
------------
Before you download, this version of the Sample Editor NEEDS
the following minimum set-up:
* System 7
* 68020 or better processor (Mac II, LC, etc.)
* 640 x 480 8-bit monitor
plus * Sound input device and plenty of RAM, if you want to record.
The Sample Editor is an application that allows you to edit and
manipulate sampled sound on the Macintosh. It supports sound input
and output from Audio Interchange (AIFF) files, Mac 'snd' resources,
and the Clipboard. The sound may be compressed by a factor of up
to 6:1. You can also record direct from any connected microphone,
limited only by the available memory. The waveform of a sound can be
displayed in any level of detail you require by selecting the part
you wish to zoom in on. You can edit it using Cut, Copy, Paste and
Clear, and apply transformations such as Fade, Normalise, Crossfade
and Digital Delay.
Other features include:
* Full balloon help
* Flash 3d user interface based on the Hypercard audio palette
* Auto-play of files in open file dialogue box
* Real-time pitch bending
* On-screen indication of playback position
* Overview of whole waveform displayed at all times
* Time grid behind main waveform
* Animated input level meter
* Selections and insertion points can be marked and named
* Full Undo and Redo support
* Other bits and pieces (some good, some bugs...)
A full user guide is included with the application in Word 4.0 format.
The Sample Editor is copyright 1992 Garrick McFarlane, but you may
make copies of and distribute this version as you like for personal use.
Commercial shareware or other companies should please contact me
before including the Sample Editor on any compilation disks.
If you like the Sample Editor, PLEASE at least send me a note! If you
feel indebted to me, make it cash (I should be so lucky :-) ), but otherwise
any kind of note will do me fine. Do let me know what you think, or
what you want adding or changing... but make it quick because I lose
E-mail access in July.
